WILD at the FIE 2011 - Winning with natural sweetener concepts (05.12.2011)

At the FIE 2011, WILD is presenting its broad portfolio of sweeteners derived from natural sources. WILD will focus on stevia, the no-calorie sweetener. Along with the Sunwin Stevia™ line of extracts, WILD offers manufacturers integrated “Taste Optimizing” solutions for foods sweetened with stevia. WILD will also highlight sweetening alternatives using the natural nutritive sweetener Fruit Up®. Fruit Up® is now available in liquid form as a tabletop sweetener, as well as a natural binding system for granola bars.

EU approval on stevia has just been granted with first products expected on shelf early in December. WILD is in the perfect position to support manufacturers in developing great tasting products sweetened with stevia. With the company's stake in Sunwin International, one of the leading manufacturers of stevia, WILD offers its clients the benefit of a steady supply of premium-quality stevia extracts and substantial expertise in the field of applications.

A wide selection of integrated stevia solutions
In Paris, WILD will be presenting its multi-facetted stevia product concepts that feature sophisticated “Taste Optimizing” solutions. WILD developed these natural functional flavors in close conjunction with a panel of trained sensory professionals making it possible to mask stevia's undesired bitter off-notes, thus creating the ideal flavor in a broad range of different foods. At WILD's booth at the FIE visitors can try several product samples, including zero-calorie hard candies, chewing gums and chocolates as well as several beverages offering reduced and no added sugar propositions.

Furthermore, WILD and Fi Conferences will hold the first stevia webinar on December 8th 2011 – 2pm GMT/ 3pm CET/ 9am EST. This free-to-attend, one-hour event will clarify the new regulations. Furthermore, it will explore post-approval market opportunities, in addition to addressing ways of overcoming key technical challenges faced in working with stevia.

Fruit Up® – now available as a tabletop sweetener
Another WILD approach to sweetening products naturally is Fruit Up®, a natural nutritive sweetener obtained entirely from fruit. The Fruit Up® production process uses no chemical additives or enzymatic treatment. Fruit Up® can be used in multiple applications and lets manufacturers develop formulations which give consumers the added value of naturalness and clean labeling they require. At the WILD booth in Paris, visitors can sample granola clusters sweetened with Fruit Up®.

WILD portfolio now includes the Fruit Up® tabletop sweetener. Manufacturers cannot only work with natural sweeteners in their product formulations, they can also offer it as a finished product – either as a colorless or a golden-brown version. The new Fruit Up® tabletop sweetener is ideal for a number of applications: it can be stirred into cornflakes, granola and yogurt or used as a spread for bread. Desserts and sweet dishes, such as: pancakes, puddings and muffins, can be sweetened with Fruit Up® as well as sauces and salad dressings. Manufacturers can indicate the many options on the product label.

Peter Naylor, Director of Strategic Business Development WILD, summarizes the advantages as follows: “The new tabletop sweetener Fruit Up® gives food manufacturers an attractive cost-effective alternative to sweeteners like sugar, honey and agave syrup. Since Fruit Up® is all-natural, it also complies with current consumer trends.” Sensory tests confirm that the new tabletop sweetener has a winning taste. At WILD's booth, manufacturers can see that the good flavor of this natural and versatile tabletop sweetener will win over consumers.

Lowering sugar via “Sweetness Enhancing Technology”
Another idea WILD is presenting is its new “Natural Sweetness Enhancing Technology”. This innovative approach lets manufacturers offer products with a lower sugar content; at the same time, it rounds out the sweetness. From a marketing perspective, the reduced amount of calories in the finished product is another positive feature. WILD's “Natural Sweetness Enhancing Technology” can be combined with both Fruit Up® and with Sunwin Stevia™ to create foods with purely-natural sweetness and outstanding flavor.

Clean labeling for granola bars
Experts at WILD have also created an innovative and all-natural binder for cereals and dried fruit that is based on various juice concentrates. The resulting binder allow the finished products to have a clean label. Bar manufacturers can focus on the target group of health-conscious consumers who enjoy granola and fruit bars and who pay attention to the list of ingredients when they buy food.
